Nine Arch Bridge - A Marvel of Engineering
The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the "Bridge in the Sky," is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous architectural wonders. Located between Ella and Demodara railway stations, this spectacular viaduct was constructed during the British colonial era and is a remarkable example of railway engineering. Built entirely of brick, stone, and cement without the use of steel, the bridge spans 91 meters in length and rises 24 meters above the lush greenery below.
The surrounding tea plantations and dense forests make the bridge a picturesque sight, especially when a train passes over it. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the soft light enhances its beauty. Many visitors choose to walk along the railway tracks leading to the bridge, enjoying the serene ambiance and stunning landscape. For those looking for a breathtaking view, nearby hills provide an excellent vantage point.
The Nine Arch Bridge is not only a symbol of Sri Lanka’s colonial past but also a must-visit destination for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
